But it runs as efficiently as a well oiled chronometer because, unusually for a hotel, not only has the hotel been under the same ownership / management since 1975 but, uniquely in the hotel industry, our reception / management team have been here on average, 25 years (yes!) &, students apart, the average member of staff in all areas of the hotel (kitchen, restaurant, chambermaids etc, (whoops!) garden) have been here 13 years. So we all know how to look after our welcome guests. Not that we're remotely complacent!

As we do not cater for parties of over 10/12 (no functions
etc) individual attention is guaranteed

Although the hotel has all modern comforts, right
down to an indoor pool, the building originates from 1540 but has a
more Georgian appearence due to an 1810 modernisation

We are just 5 minutes walk from the town, but in our
large (2 1/2 acre) gardens the peace & quiet is blissful
|

The hallmark of the hotel is, we are repeatedly told,
its idiosyncrasy (we even won an award for it from the Good Hotel Guide).
From the Teddy Bear room key fobs to the uniquely presented wine list,
it's the touch of informality in all areas and not forgetting the loos
(Hotel Loo of the Year!) or the swimming pool lifeguard (a life size
gorilla!) the atmosphere reeks of informality.
