Since 1977 we have been unusual (actually unique!)
in not selling French & German wine but everything else. In those
days, and still, our best selling red wine was Cousiño Macul Antiguas
Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile - nowadays every man and his
dog is selling & drinking Chilean wine. Time has moved on and our
uniquely presented photographic wine list offers wine from such diverse
areas as Cuba, Sweden, Utah, Algeria as well as the more normal Holland,
India, Ireland (yes!), Idaho whoops, I mean South Africa, New Zealand,
Italy! All up it's a fun approach to drinking wine and if you give us
a French / German 'for instance' we'll soon come up with something similar.

Another intresting plus is that we sell over 130 different
grape varietals so that if you are fed up with Cabernet, Shiraz, Chardonnay,
Sauvignon Blanc, you could try Tinta Barroca, Alicante Bouschet, Coda
di Volpe or Sauvignon Gris etc etc. Take it from me varietal grapes
will be the next wine fad, started here

Our list of liqueurs, brandies, whiskies, eaux-de-vie,
aperitifs, schnapps, hangover cures etc etc is unrivalled, so it's an
opportunity not to be missed to try something different. It's impossible
(so far!) to taste over cyberspace, so here's a few examples of some
of our most popular (or unpopular!) drinks:
|
| Framboise (Liqueur de) - Raspberries are probably the only proof that God exists, the rest is faith! | Eddu Silver - French malt whisky? Well as you know they can't make wine (!) so they're trying whisky!! Made from buckwheat so very different from Scotch, but really rather appealing | |
| Pisang Ambon - Sweet, bright green liqueur with exotic & erotic (or does that read 'erratic'?) Indonesian origins. The only good banana liqueur I know. | Tyrni - Until now you've probably never heard of the Seabuckthorn berry which grows like mad in Finland's west coast outer archipelago! An acquired taste but, at least you've learned something. | |
| Starboard - Made by Andrew Quady in California; it is a vintage-style port using traditional grapes & with age, will be very smooth. Worth trying now even if it's still very spirity & youthful. Presumably, Starboard should be passed round anti-clockwise?! We have two types - cheap & vintage. | Edradour - From the smallest distillery, employing only about 2 1/2 pixies. Now owned by the French, so it's L'Edradour. | |
| Glenesk - As elusive as a left-footed haggis &, as the distillery (near Montrose) has been closed for 20+ years, it will also become extinct. | Tomatin - The first, not last, distillery to be sold to the Japanese (who also make an excellent malt, sorry!). A huge distillery that traces its whisky associations back to the time of Mary, Queen of Scots. | |
| Ardbeg - Hard to tell the difference between this & my favourite, Laphroaig. Now owned by the Glenmorangie people, so will be better known. Also a '78 & '74 currently. | S.S. Politician - Whisky Galore. The actual whisky recovered from the sea, a bit of history, a bit of a novel, a film - a jolly good blended dram. | |
| Lammerlaw - New Zealand, from almost near penguinland, Dunedin to be precise. Very good with a weird gingerishness! | Yamazaki - As well as being the name of one of my great, lifelong friends, this is a superb single malt whisky from Japan's first whisky distillery. A light, not a peaty, style. | |
| Wild Turkey Rare - The way Americans love hunting I'd think wild turkeys are very rare! | Delamain Pale & Dry - My favourite cognac, not caramelised like some of the major brands. This is an X.O. but we buy it straight from the agent so can afford to sell it at V.S.O.P. price, so, yes, it's a bargain. | |
| Marquis de Puységur V.S.O.P. - My favourite armagnac, full of flavour and with a nice bite. An earlier Marquis was a renowned mesmerist - I get pretty mesmerised after a few shots of this! | Fundador - Rather like page 3 of the Sun, everyone is rather rude about it, but it's hard to resist!! Whoops, sexist comment! | |
| Marc de Château Grenouille - A top marc de Chablis, nothing to do with frogs, I promise! (Just made by them?!?!). | Barrack Palinka - The national spirit of Hungary; distilled apricots. | |
| Havana Club - If Castro had dropped his beliefs & socialist principles as niftily as our miserable PM, then Havana Club might have become a big seller. As it is, the dead hand of socialism has made this as popular as North Korean whisky! The 15yr old is superb, as is the 7yr old, while the 5yr old and 3yr old are good fun. | Tortuga 151 - Cayman Is rum of the head-banging variety. Presumably, after you've laundered some money there, you need this to clear your conscience & your consciousness!! | |
| Koskenkorva - While we drink claret with our roast beef & Yorkshire, the Finns knock back frozen slugs of this with their roast elk!! | Mirto di Sardegna - I suppose that there's not much else to do in Sardinia, apart from grow bilberries & turn them into this rather nasty bitters! |
